Crystal Palace was fined 50,000 pounds ($67,360) by the FA on Friday for a banner displayed by Crystal Palace fans showing Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis holding what looked like a gun to the head of midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

+The incident took place during their 1-1 draw in the Premier League at Selhurst Park in August, and the banner read: “Mr Marinakis is not involved in blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking, or corruption.”

This was the first encounter between the two sides since Palace was relegated from the Europa League to the Conference League for violating UEFA’s multi-club ownership policy, which allowed Forest to take Palace’s spot in the competition.

“The club failed to ensure that its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) did not behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, insulting, and/or provocative manner at this match,” the FA said in a statement.

“The fact that Crystal Palace had a policy to prevent banners being smuggled into the stadium shows that it was aware of the risk,” it added.

The Palace later denied the allegation, but an independent regulatory commission ruled that the allegation was proven and levied the fine after a hearing.

Marinakis, who bought Nottingham Forest in 2017, has consistently denied claims related to match-fixing, corruption, and other illegal acts.

On the other hand, Gibbs-White, who almost left Forest last summer after Tottenham Hotspur triggered a 60 million pounds release clause, signed a new deal with the club.
