ISLAMABAD: Pakistan launched retaliatory airstrikes on Taliban-linked targets inside Afghanistan. Officials said 133 Afghan Taliban members were killed. More than 200 were injured in the operation on Friday.
The military carried out the strikes under the banner of “Ghazab Lil Haq.” Officials said the action responded to unprovoked cross-border shelling in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the airstrikes hit defensive positions linked to the Afghan Taliban. The targets were located in Kabul, Paktia, and Kandahar. He told that casualties could rise as operations continue.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif called the strikes a decisive response. He said Pakistan will not tolerate threats to its sovereignty or territorial integrity.
Officials said the operation aims to neutralise hostile elements. They added that Pakistan wants to prevent further escalation along the border.
