Pakistan women’s national cricket team Post Record Total but Fall Short in Chase
Pakistan registered their highest-ever ODI total. They surpassed their previous best of 335-3 against Ireland Women in Lahore in 2022. Despite the record score, they fell 16 runs short.
The third ODI will take place on 1 March at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban.
Pakistan built their strong reply on half-centuries from Ayesha Zafar, Sadaf Shamas and captain Fatima Sana. Syeda Aroob Shah and Diana Baig added valuable runs in the lower order. The visitors pushed hard and nearly created the highest successful run chase in women’s ODI history.
Pakistan lost Muneeba Ali in the second over and Sidra Amin in the sixth over with 24 runs on the board. Sadaf Shamas then added 97 runs for the third wicket with Ayesha Zafar. Ayesha scored 75 off 68 balls and hit eight fours. Sadaf made 61 off 62 balls with nine boundaries before Sune Luus dismissed her in the 20th over.
Ayesha and Natalia Parvaiz added 76 runs for the fourth wicket. Pakistan reached 197-3 and needed 165 runs from 122 balls. South Africa fought back strongly. Nondumiso Shangase dismissed Ayesha and Aliya Zafar in the 30th over. Annerie Dercksen removed Natalia in the next over. Pakistan slipped to 199-6.
Fatima Sana counterattacked. She scored 52 off 36 balls with six fours and a six. She added 81 runs with Aroob Shah for the seventh wicket. Fatima fell in the 42nd over with 280 runs on the board.
Pakistan needed 82 runs off 49 balls. Aroob scored 40 and added 34 runs with Diana Baig. Nadine de Klerk dismissed Aroob and Nashra Sandhu in the 47th over.
Diana Baig kept fighting. She smashed 38 not out off 25 balls with five fours and a six. Pakistan needed 23 runs off the final over but were bowled out for 345 in 49.5 overs.
Dercksen took 3 for 59. Shangase, de Klerk and Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up two wickets each.
South Africa women’s national cricket team Post 362 After Late Assault
Earlier, South Africa posted 362 after Pakistan asked them to bat first. This became their second-highest total in women’s ODIs.
Annerie Dercksen led the charge with 90 off 68 balls. She smashed six fours and four sixes. Tazmin Brits scored 77 off 62 balls with ten fours and two sixes. She and Laura Wolvaardt added 55 runs in the first 8.4 overs before Wolvaardt departed for 20.
Pakistan removed Faye Tunnicliffe and Brits in the middle overs. Sune Luus then partnered Dercksen for a crucial 102-run stand. Luus scored 57 before Aroob dismissed her.
Sadia Iqbal bowled Sinalo Jafta to leave South Africa at 234-5. Fatima Sana denied Dercksen a century. However, Nadine de Klerk scored 49 off 26 balls and Chloe Tryon blasted 37 off 23 balls. South Africa hammered 127 runs in the final 62 balls to reach 362.
For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal, Fatima Sana and Aroob Shah claimed two wickets each.
