Sanju Samson’s Breathtaking Knock Lays the Foundation for India’s Win

India became the first team to reach four consecutive ICC limited-overs tournament finals. The team also posted one of the highest innings totals in T20 World Cup history. A brilliant batting display from the Kerala batter made this possible.

Sanju Samson opened the innings with Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek scored only 9 runs from 7 balls and disappointed again. Samson dominated the England bowlers. He scored at a strike rate of 211.90. He smashed 7 sixes and 8 boundaries. His aggressive batting helped India post a huge total.

Ishan Kishan followed Abhishek Sharma to the crease. He played a quick knock of 39 runs from 18 balls. Shivam Dube also impressed with the bat. He smashed four big sixes and scored 43 runs from 25 balls.

Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma added late runs with quick hits. However, Jasprit Bumrah controlled the game with the ball.

Samson Wants Jasprit Bumrah to Receive the Man of the Match Award

Sanju Samson received the Player of the Match award. Still, he openly credited Bumrah during the presentation ceremony. He explained his approach during the match. He said he tried to manage the difficult phases of the innings carefully.

“I knew I had some form from the last game. So it was important to continue. It was a big match. I wanted to make full use of the opportunity. I calculated my innings. I also got a bit lucky at the start. But I kept going,” Samson said.

Samson also showed humility and respect for his teammate. He requested the presenters to give the award to Jasprit Bumrah instead.

“After the way we batted. After the partnership between me and Ishan. We believed 250 was possible. Credit goes to Bumrah. He is a world-class bowler. A once-in-a-generation player. This award should go to him. If he had not bowled like that in the death overs, I would not be standing here,” Samson added.

Why Bumrah Was So Special in the IND vs ENG Clash

Jasprit Bumrah took only one wicket in his four overs. He conceded 30 runs. On paper, the figures looked ordinary. However, the spell proved extremely valuable in the match.

England started the chase poorly. The team lost three wickets inside the powerplay. However, Jacob Bethell fought back strongly. He scored 105 runs from 48 balls. His innings almost brought England back into the contest.

England stood at 95 for four after 7.3 overs. Bethell kept attacking. The required run rate slowly dropped. England needed 135 runs from 60 balls earlier. Later they needed only 61 runs from 24 deliveries.

Bumrah Brings Control in the 18th Over

Bumrah conceded some runs during his earlier overs. He dismissed Harry Brook. Despite that, he maintained control on a batting-friendly pitch at Wankhede. Other bowlers struggled badly. Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Shivam Dube and Axar Patel all bowled with economy rates above 10.

The most important moment came in the 18th over. Jasprit Bumrah took the ball when England needed 45 runs from the last three overs.

Jacob Bethell looked dangerous at the crease. One big over could have changed the match. Bumrah delivered a superb over under pressure. He conceded only six runs. He bowled tight lines and controlled the batters. The required run rate jumped to 19.50.

After that, Hardik Pandya dismissed Sam Curran. The wicket ended England’s hopes. India secured their place in the T20 World Cup final.
